Prescription Safety Glasses
I seem to recall a post at one time that dealt with Prescription Safety Glasses but cannot find it. My manager, our VP of Operation, surprised me by shooting out an email to all our management team that safety glasses usage was going to now be enforced. It's always been a policy in our shop and service trucks but never truly enforced. We had some locations and companies better than others at ensuring everyone was complying. Today, we were talking and he asked if we had a reimbursement program for prescription safety glasses. When I first started I was able to get approval for $75 reimbursement. That has been almost 10 years ago or more and we get very few who take advantage of it due to the low reimbursement value. He talked about getting with our owner and seeing if we can get it bumped up.
So, I'm curious who all reimburses for prescription safety glasses and if you do, up to what amount do you reimburse and what frequency? Ours is also every two years unless they are damaged during the course of working.

My prior employer offers a $250 reimbursement cap per year in NC.

At one of my previous employers, we offered $200/person every 2 years, but that was back in 2016-2018.

Because we have a low headcount at my current Employer, we cover prescription safety glasses 100%. In previous lives, the companies I worked for covered the lenses 100%. The frames were covered up to 100.00.

My current employer reimburses single vision lenses at $65 and double/triple vision lenses at $135 annually. My previous employer reimbursed all prescription lenses at $100 annually. Damaged safety glasses are handled on a case-by-case basis.

My current employer covers 100% for prescription safety glasses every two years. My previous employer did not cover safety glasses.

Some of my cusotmers do not offer anything. Some offer 100% every two years. Some are in between. It is all over the "map" on what you can and would like to do. As a fomer HR person, I tell my customers that it is a benefit. You have to weigh glasses like every other benefit. I live and work in an area that has a lot of manufacturing where most employees offer some sort of reimbursement. When you have a tough time hiring employees it is another factor like all benefits!
Much the same can be said about footwear, when you require it!

one previous employer covered them through our VSP benefits.
We have a very low volume of Rx Safety Glasses, so we pay 100% every 2 years.

We connected with 3 companies, and made a “deal” with them to send out team for prescription glasses; this also gave us an overall discount on the glasses. We do not “reimburse” as we wanted to verify the glasses that were being purchased met the standard we wanted; as often we seen those go out and get glasses that had removable side shields, and we wanted to mitigate that. So all EE’s go to one of the 3 locations, pick out any of the “pre approved” glasses, and they are good to go. They can get new glasses ($200-$250) every two years, or if they have sight changes via prescription change.
