What does your ladder inspection program look like?
We have a really poor program, and I don't believe the majority of our workforce understand how to properly inspect a ladder. Before I launch a full-blown ladder training and management program I wanted to hear what you guys do for your inspections.
1) How often do you train your employees on ladder use?
2) How often do you have employees run a visual inspection on a ladder?
3) How often do you have employees perform a written ladder inspection?
Anything else let me know as well

OSHA has not specified any time frame for required retraining or recertification for Ladder and Stairway Safety. Since there is no OSHA standard dealing with this specific hazard the OSH Act general duty clause, section 5(a)(1), 29 U.S.C. 654(b)(1) defines the standard which provides that:
(a) Each employer -
(1) shall furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which are free from recognized hazards that are causing or are likely to cause death or serious physical harm to his employees.
A recognized hazard is a danger recognized by the employer's industry or industry in general, by the employer, or by common sense. The general duty clause does not apply if there is an OSHA standard dealing with the hazard, unless the employer knows that the standard does not adequately address the hazard.
In past jobs, I've been trained annually.
Visual inspection should be done prior to each use.
Written, we used to do once a month....just like fire extinguishers. But I'll be honest...I haven't taken the training in awhile to remember what the regulations actually state is required. That's my disclaimer. LOL! I don't use ladders these days.
