Hazardous chemical storage
Question for the group: How do you store flammable liquids in large volumes? For instance, Our site has 8, 55-gallon drums of xylene/toluene that are dispensed in to smaller containers for daily usage.
There are storage issues with these solvents causing a buildup of vapors in the area. I know we at least need to improve ventilation, however I am looking in to alternatives before exploring that option (IE: external storage unit). Maybe transition to IBC totes?
Do you store these inside your facility? Do you store them outside of your facility in a climate controlled unit? How do you ventilate the space?

I use (WISER) Wireless Information System for Emergency Responders, they have a section on storage conditions. They reference SDS, Best Practices, NFPA, etc.

Definitely need a grounded storage since you’re suspensing. Justrite has some fire rated outdoor drum lockers. I think they are made for like 6 or 12 drums but there are other sizes. They can options for heater/AC and can come insulated. They also provide secondary containment and have gravity fed venting. Might be an option for the situation you’re describing.

We store in a gated and locked outside area away from plant. Very little traffic in the area.
