Safety Hurdles
I recently had a safety hurdle at work. In fact, it’s an ongoing project where we are improving a process and identifying all controls possible to reduce an exposure. Most folks are supportive but two are not, so it’s created a really fun situation (insert sarcasm). I am trying to push on using data and facts, but some folks don’t understand our goal to reduce exposure, minimize risk and continually improve.
What was your latest safety hurdle? Were you successful in combatting it or did other forces win? Any lessons learned to share with your fellow Safety Knights?

It’s all a matter of figuring out their language. While data and facts may resonate with safety pros, it doesn’t always work that way for other members of management. How much downtime will it reduce? How will it improve the quality of the product or service? Although it’s all a matter of ROI, we have to figure out what makes them want to invest. Unfortunately, there are people that will fight you to the death over it for no apparent reason other than they want it to be their idea and not yours.

My biggest hurdle is always administrative projects. I’m horrible at buckling down and writing, definitely something I’ve been working at. Cliche, but most of the time I am my own biggest hurdle hah.
As far as your situation we’ve all been there. If it’s something you believe in just keep pushing for it. Be the squeaky wheel until something breaks loose for you. If you’re trying to fast track it I would pitch it to upper management (their bosses) and see if you can make something happen
